Reed take revenge on Chorleywood

Reed take revenge on Chorleywood

William Heslam

So far this season Reed have only lost two league games and one of these was on a ‘sticky’ at Chorleywood. It was very satisfying therefore that they repaid them with a commanding win on The Green.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat, but immediately found themselves in trouble as Jack Tidey, returning from injury, and Matt Giblin, fresh from last week’s heroics, removed both openers. As usual they bowled with pace and accuracy, constantly passing the outside edge of the next pair of batters, but somehow they survived. It was the change bowlers who did the damage however, reducing the visitors from 64-2 to 85-9. Tom Greaves (4-27) and Julien Fynn (4-34) instigated the collapse, but the last pair frustrated them adding 43 runs, until Greaves broke the stand with Giblin pouching the catch at backward square leg.
128 looked a simple target and Tom Thorpe immediately took control, scoring 38 of 44-2. He found a willing partner in Charlie Walters who added an undefeated 35, but when Thorpe finally departed for 70, his highest score for Reed, two more wickets were needlessly frittered away until Jack Caine calmly steered the winning runs as Reed won by 5 wickets. Thorpe’s innings contained 10 boundaries and a maximum as he stood head and shoulders above all the other batters in the match. He did pay for it though, sustaining some painful bruises as the odd ball reared up on him.
As a result, Reed moved further ahead at the top of Division One.
