Reed 3s, were at home to Weston, at Freman on a very wet Saturday.

The game was nearly called off at 11.15am but both captains agreed to give it a go. Reed won the toss, hoping the ball would do something, but unfortunately it didn’t. Weston openers got a good start putting on 50 for the 1st wicket, which bought to the wicket John Wesley Tata who from the start, looked class and a little bit too good for division 13 East! He scored a chanceless 76 from 62 balls even throughout continued rain. Good kudus for the Reed fielders and bowlers to stick out there, especially bowlers, Simon England and Stan Cooper who both took wickets. And Simon, Stan and Greg who bowled into the horrendous wind and rain.

The innings was curtailed, unsurprisingly by the rain at 31 overs with Weston on 170-2 off 31 overs.

It then rained, rained and there was more rain but Weston were extremely keen to get playing again. With a bit of persuasion Reed agreed to start again, in the rain, which looking back was the wrong decision. It continued through the Reed innings, which meant holding a bat was hard, as was running between the wickets and Weston somehow managed to find a way for the ball to start doing something – which was summed up with 9 wickets being bowled and the other unfortunately a run out.

Ethan Fox (15), Simon Jackson (27), Ollie Kimsey (16) all got in, but a regular fall of wickets left, the whole team soaked and Simon England 26 not out from only 26 balls.

Reed definitely rolled a dice trying to chase 171 off 31 overs, when just about no cricket was played in Hertfordshire on Saturday. It was in conditions that cricket would not be played in, again in the future. However, fair play to Weston who were the better side, with lots of quality, even in the worst conditions any of us would have played in.
