Heslam's Maiden Hundred Leads Reed to Sunday Victory

William Heslam3 Jul - 12:02

15-year-old Josh Heslam's maiden century and Matthew Jackson's five-wicket haul lead Reed to Sunday victory.

Reed CC welcomed Cam Kerala on a sunny afternoon at Reed. Cam Kerala winning the toss and chose to bat first.
Cam Kerala might of regretted that decision to bat first with the visitor's top order struggling to find traction against the new ball leaving them 29-4 with some tight bowling from Josh Heslam (8-2-40-2) and Matthew Jackson (6.4-0-27-5) doing the damage. There number five batsman Jigog came in and attacked straight away hitting some big sixes and putting pressure back onto Reed. E Heslam (7-1-26-1) and Z Rouse (8-0-45-1) gave Reed control in the middle overs with Cam Kerala taking caution to there spin bowling. However, Jigog continued and was supported by Shanij (22) and Arunk (40) to take Cam Kerala to over 200. Jigog bought up is his 100 in the process with a magnificent innings of 115 to anchor the side. However, M Jackson came back on with some brilliant death bowling to get the wicket of Jigog with a good catch on the boundary from skipper R Hughes. Jackson then removed the last two wickets in the final over of the innings to get his first 5fa in adult cricket. Cam Kerala were bowled out for 234 in 39.4 overs which would give Reed a challenging chase.

Chasing 235 for victory, Reed CC openers J Heslam and L Bowman made a patient start with some good opening bowling from Cam Kerala. After seeing off the opening bowlers J Heslam and L Bowman started upping the scoring with hitting the bad ball to the boundary with J Heslam bringing up his 50 just after drinks. They set a great foundation of the innings with a 108 partnership before Bowman was bowled for 34 who played a patient and anchoring role.
Following Bowman's departure, D Shagam joined J Heslam at the crease and Heslam immediately accelerated the scoring when Shagam came to the crease. Shagam then upped his scoring rate with J Heslam punishing the bad ball and great running between the wickets putting the Cam Kerala fielders under pressure. J Heslam bought up a magnificent 100 which was first adult 100 with Reed closing in on victory. Not long after Shagam bought up his 50. The pair chased down the target in 39 overs, with Shagam finishing it with a six to secure an emphatic 9-wicket victory. Shagam finished 63 not out, with him and Heslam putting on a unbeaten 127 partnership to take Reed to victory. The star of the chase was J Heslam carrying his bat through the entire innings to score a brilliant, unbeaten 114.
