Going into Saturday’s final league game of the season, Reed CC 4th XI knew exactly what was at stake. With 10 points needed to secure their position as Champions of Division 15, the 4s were determined to finish the campaign on a high.

Winning the toss at Freman College, Reed elected to field and produced an excellent bowling performance against Bushey CC. Simon England led the way with an outstanding 3 for 21 from 7 overs, including two maidens, while Daniel Durrant also claimed 3 wickets for 36. Liam Nash chipped in with 2 for 31 and Scott Nash took 1 for 12 from 4.3 overs. Reed’s bowlers worked hard throughout, restricting Bushey to 168 all out from 37.3 overs.

With 169 required for victory, Reed’s chase got off to a difficult start, slipping to 20 for 3. However, Scott Nash steadied the innings with an excellent 43 from 60 balls, including four fours and a six. He found support from Maseeh Naeem, who contributed 14, before Simon England supported with the bat, scoring 40 from just 44 balls, striking six boundaries.

Despite the best efforts of Nash and England, wickets continued to fall and Reed were eventually bowled out for 145 in 30.2 overs, falling 23 runs short of the target. Cameron MacLeod remained unbeaten on 0 as the final wicket fell.

Although the result went Bushey’s way, Reed’s excellent season had already put them in a commanding position at the top of Division 15. The 4s collected 15 league points from the game, including 5 batting points and an impressive 10 bowling points, taking them beyond the required total to secure the championship.

And what a way to finish the season individually. Simon England finishes the campaign as the league’s leading wicket taker, while Scott Nash ends the season as the league’s leading run scorer – a fantastic reward for two outstanding seasons with the bat and ball.
