Saturdays heavy rain ensured damp conditions prevailed at Reed where the 3 times NVC Winners entertained Redbourn CC, themselves Lords finalists in 2020.
Two weeks previously Redbourn had won a match at Reed by ONE run when the pair met in their Herts League, Championship Division, encounter!
Reed won the toss and elected to field. Redbourn got off to a flying start with 12 off the first over and were soon well placed at 32-0 from 5 overs. However, things changed rapidly and dramatically. When Jack Tidey had Ed Hales caught for 18 the floodgates opened. No 3 Mack was then run out for 0, and the very next ball opener Yorath was caught behind for 14. Three overs later Jack Tidey struck with 2 wickets in an over making it 44-6, but worse was to come as Ollie Johnson bowled Bury for 0 making the visitors score 44-7. Redbourn No5 William Hales then dug in and sought to recover the innings. With a 78 ball innings of 54, punctuated by 9 boundaries, he turned the ship around, ably assisted by Alex Salter 16, before the pair were the last two batsmen dismissed. Redbourn totalled just 127 in 30.1 Overs. Jack Tidey 8 Overs 4-13 starred for Reed, together with Ollie Johnson 8 Overs 3-26. A significant Redbourn recovery from 44-7, and the visitors bowlers at least had something to try and defend.
The welcome novelty of a much-missed Cricket Tea was consumed before Reed set off after the required 128.
The Reed innings started in similar aggressive style to Redbourn with Michael Robertson striking 4 hard hit boundaries in his quickfire 20 before being bowled by Moyle in the 4th over. A relatively quiet period ensued until in the 10th Over Will Heslam, and Reed Skipper Rob Lankester were dismissed in successive balls and Reed limped to 42-3. However, at 57-4, three times NVC Winner Stuart Smith was joined by fellow Reed 3 Timer Tom Greaves and pair set about steering Reed towards the required total. Smith succumbed LBW for 43 with the score at 97-4 in the 27th Over, but Tom Greaves stood firm and with plenty of overs in hand Reed finally crossed the winning line after a flurry of 3 successive boundaries, Jack Tidey adding a useful 12* to his earlier 4 wickets.
A See-Saw game in which Reed crept over the winning line in the 31st over, 6 wickets down.
