207 required to win and 6 needed with 9 wickets down, as Sean Tidey, who had carried the tail with some clever play, hit another boundary. He blocked what became the last ball of the match, but turned to see it agonisingly dribble onto the stumps. Redbourn had won by 1 run!
It concluded a fascinating game between last year’s promoted sides. Redbourn started at a gallop making 50 for the first wicket, but Reed slowly reined them in with only captain, Alex Salter (48) offering much resistance. Jack Tidey (1-37) and Ollie Johnson (2-33) both bowled ‘tidily’, but the main strike force once again was Tom Greaves (3-38) and Will Heslam (4-32).
Reed in reply put together a series of half a dozen handy partnerships, initially anchored by Heslam, who hit his second successive league half century. Then Sean Tidey took over with his superbly crafted 40. However six LBWs turned out to be Reed’s eventual downfall.
What a game!
