A fairly warm day in Hertford was the scene for the opportunity for Reed to climb further up the table.
The opposition skipper decided to bat first on a bouncy wicket and slow outfield. Reed had the better of the start getting Hatfield in a hard position at roughly 35 for 4 of 12 overs with wickets for Heslam Jnr, Ladds (x2) and Nussey. Through the middle stage of the game, Nussey and Cooper Sr bowled well. However Hatfield had some strong batters through the middle and lower order two of which got 50s in fairly quick time and helped their team to build towards a good total despite further strong bowling from Yates (1-31) and Dawson (2-24) taking them up to 190 off 35 overs. At the end some of the Hatfield batsmen went for it even more to get up to a total of 219 for 8 of their full 40 overs.
After lunch, Reed were set a total to chase of 220. For Reed it wasn’t the best start with a few quick wickets with Ladds unfortunately run out for (9) and some other wickets which left Reed roughly 20-3 off 7 overs. Hughes (30) came in at a difficult time and managed to make a strong partnership with Cooper Jr (14) sadly Hughes was unlucky and got caught and bowled. After that a couple of other wickets fell which left Reed roughly 60-5 at the 17 over mark. Yates (40) then continued his strong batting form and although two further wickets fell when he was joined by Dawson there was a promising partnership developing until Yates unfortunately fell on (40). Reed were then 125-9 off 31 overs and this brought skipper Bowman to the middle who batted well with Dawson until Dawson (35) fell after hitting some big sixes which left Bowman (8 not out) and Reed 158 all out off about 38 overs which meant they suffered a loss. This result moves Reed down to 7th in the table but in a close middle section of the league and still a long way from relegation.
