Reed CC 4th XI made it back-to-back league victories with a commanding five-wicket win away to Ickleford CC 4th XI, dismissing the hosts for just 70 before calmly chasing down the target in 23.4 overs.
After losing the toss and being asked to field, Reed's bowlers wasted little time asserting control. George Wood struck early to remove Teddy Lace for a duck and finished with excellent figures of 2-12 from his eight overs. Zak Rouse maintained the pressure with four maidens in his spell, claiming the wicket of Neil Taylor, while Rory Longland ripped through the lower order with 3-14 from 7.1 overs.
With Ickleford rebuilding at 60-4, Joshua England delivered a crucial double strike to remove Deepak Chandran and Arvind Warraich in quick succession. Captain Simon England then wrapped up the innings with two wickets for just two runs from three overs, as Ickleford were bowled out for 70 in 31.1 overs. Reed backed up the bowling effort with sharp fielding, Aaron Nash taking three catches behind the stumps.
Chasing a modest target, Reed's openers made a steady start. Lloyd Bowman battled hard for 12, while Scott Nash top-scored with 19, sharing a first-wicket partnership of 31. Eddie Heslam added 10 as Reed briefly lost a few wickets to Teddy Lace and Arvind Warraich, but there was never any danger of the target slipping away.
Abishek Elangovan held firm to finish unbeaten, and skipper Simon England guided the side home with 5 not out as Reed reached 72-5 with more than 26 overs to spare.
It was a thoroughly professional performance from Reed, with five bowlers among the wickets and a disciplined chase securing the maximum 30 points and continuing their strong start to the season.
