Reed CC 4th XI continued their winning streak with a hard-fought two-wicket victory away to Cockfosters 3rd XI at Hadley Field.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, Reed produced a disciplined bowling display to dismiss the hosts for 116 in 32.2 overs. Simon England led the way with an excellent spell of 4-23 from his eight overs, removing four key batsmen and applying constant pressure. Scott Nash provided valuable support with 3-30, while Rory Longland claimed 2-19 and Joshua England wrapped up the innings with the final wicket.
Cockfosters made a promising start through Jonathon Burrows (30), but Reed chipped away regularly and reduced the home side from 71-7 to 71-8 before a late stand from Kangeyan Sivagurunathan (29) lifted them into three figures. Tight spells from S England and S Nash ensured the target remained manageable.
Reed’s reply got off to a disastrous start, losing Dave Saunders and Joshua England for ducks and slipping to 1-2. Scott Nash counter-attacked with 14 before wicketkeeper Aaron Nash took control of the innings. Playing with composure and authority, Aaron struck six fours and two sixes in a superb 48 from 76 balls, anchoring the chase and rebuilding alongside Simon England (8) and later Liam Nash (3).
Although Cockfosters fought back strongly, with Jay Patel producing an outstanding spell of 4-7 from eight overs, Reed kept their nerve. Aaron Nash departed with only 14 runs still required, but Jack Manning-Coe remained calm to finish unbeaten on 8, and together with Oliver Gardiner guided Reed over the line at 120-8 in the 32nd over.
It was another determined team performance from Reed, with the bowlers laying the foundations and Aaron Nash’s match-winning innings proving decisive as the visitors collected the full 30 points.
