Reed CC 4th XI continued their impressive season with a composed seven-wicket victory over Ickleford CC 4th XI at Freman College on Saturday, successfully chasing 188 with almost five overs to spare.
After losing the toss and being asked to field, Reed produced a disciplined bowling and fielding display to restrict the visitors to 187-9 from their 40 overs. Simon England led the way with an outstanding spell, conceding just 21 runs from his eight overs while claiming the key wickets of Chris Coleman (43) and Neil Taylor (15). His accuracy and control ensured Ickleford never truly gained momentum.
Joshua England then provided the decisive breakthrough during the closing stages of the innings, taking 3-19 from just three overs. His burst removed Ben Mason, who had threatened to take the game away with an aggressive 57, before also dismissing Ramu Nenavath and Arvind Warraich to halt the visitors' late charge.
Scott Nash also made his mark with the ball, producing an economical spell of 1-29, while Reed's fielding remained sharp throughout. Eddie Heslam effected an important run out, with Joshua England involved in two further run outs as Reed's energy in the field proved invaluable.
Set 188 to win, Reed made an assured start thanks to Paul Garrott and Scott Nash. Nash played positively for his 38, striking four boundaries and a six before falling with the score on 62, having laid an excellent platform for the chase.
Aaron Nash added a useful 15 before Lloyd Bowman contributed a fluent 21, ensuring the required rate never became an issue. However, the innings belonged to Garrott, whose unbeaten 71 was a masterclass in controlled batting. Mixing patient accumulation with authoritative strokeplay, he struck 11 fours and a six from 94 balls to guide Reed towards victory.
